Elegant, sophisticated and classy, model Valeria Mazza began her career in
Buenos Aires before heading to New York to further chase her dream in the
fashion industry. Since the move, she has appeared on many advertising
campaigns, most notably as
Guess? Girl in 1995, and graced on the cover of such popular magazines as Elle,
Glamour and Cosmopolitan. One of fashion’s superstar models, Mazza is maybe
most-well known by many as the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model, opposite Tyra
Banks, in 1996 issue.

The Argentine beauty has benefited her celebrity status to support the Special
Olympics. In addition to a house in her native country, she also owns apartments
in New York City, Paris, and Punteste Beach, Uruguay. She is married to Buenos
Aires entrepreneur Alejandro Gravier since 1998. Despite large age difference
(Alejandro is ten years her senior), the couple happily raises their three sons
together.
Occupational Therapy
Childhood and Family:
On February 17, 1972, Valeria Mazza was born in Rosario, Santa Fe, Argentina, to
parents, Raul and Monica. With the help of his parent’s close friend, young
Valeria landed her first modeling gig in an amateur fashion show. It was while
studying Occupational Therapy that the haul from modeling world brought her to
the capitals of fashion.
Valerie married her boyfriend, major Buenos Aires businessman Alejandro Gravier,
on May 9, 1998, following several years of relationship. She met him for the
first time in a charity performance in Buenos Aires. Seven years later, he
managed Valeria’s career, and they became engaged. Valeria and Alejandro have
three sons, Balthazar (born on May 29, 1999), Tiziano (born on March 12, 2002)
and Benicio (born on February 23, 2005).
Guess Girl
Career:
Valeria Mazza got her start on modeling after her parents’ close friend helped
her get a job in an amateur fashion show. An aspiring teacher, the 16-year-old
girl changed her direction to become a professional model following an encounter
with hairstylist Roberto Giordano. She then made her way to New York to further
pursue her career.
In 1992, 5’ 10” tall Mazza made her first advertising campaign for the Caro
Cuore, Ragazza line, followed by appearance on the cover of Cosmopolitan in
September, that same year. By year 1995, she had achieved an international
recognition with her high-profile gig for Guess?. The campaign, in which she
posed with fellow model Ingrid Seynhaeve, was shot by Dewey Nicks in Hawaii. She
worked again with the photographer for her next campaign which is set in typical
Los Angeles style: laid-back and elegant.

The blonde model gained even more prominence when she was featured on the cover
of Sports Illustrated’s swimsuit issue with Tyra Banks in 1996. Her mounting
status was further confirmed when she presented the San Remo Music Festival and
the parade Piazza Espagna in Italy, that same year. Also, she hosted the MTV
fashion program, and as well as their Latin program, “House of Style.” Her other
modeling jobs included a European hosiery commercial with Antonio Banderas and a
role in Pepsi's Generation Next spots. Moreover, the cover girl dotted her
resume with shoots for such top publications as US Glamour, Elle and Vogue, in
addition to appearing on the cover of many other Latin American magazines.
In addition to gracing magazine’s cover and appearing on advertising campaign,
blue/green-eyed Mazza also has emerged as a runway model since the age of 22.
She has graced runways in such cities as New York, Paris and Milan.
