Leonard Nimoy was born on March 26, 1931, just four days after William
Shatner, in Boston, Massachusetts. After getting his B.A. and Master's Degree in
Drama, serving in the military, and holding several odd jobs, Nimoy trained at
the Pasadena Playhouse and debuted onscreen in 1951. He began with small roles
in films like, Zombies of the Stratosphere (1952). Moving to Hollywood in 1954,
he married actress Sandi Zober. They have two children, Julie and Adam. He made
appearances in TV shows such as, Gunsmoke, and Dragnet. He went on to play
supporting roles in numerous films and TV shows, and also worked as an acting
teacher. Then he hit it big in Star Trek (September 8, 1966 to September 2,
1969). After Star Trek, he was in Mission Impossible (September 1969 to
Septempber 1971). He was also, of course, the voice of Spock in the animated
Star Trek series (September 8, 1973 to October 12, 1974). Then he narrated the
very successful In Search Of... (1976 to 1982). In 1977 he starred on Broadway
in Equus. He was acclaimed for his work in the one-man stage show Vincent, in
which he portrayed Vincent Van Gogh. He also made a guest appearance on T.J.
Hooker in 1982. He has been in many movies, other than Star Trek, and directed
movies such as Star Trek III (1984) & IV (1986) and Three Men and a Baby (1987)
to name a few. He is the author of several collections of poetry, three books on
photography, and two autobiographies, I Am Not Spock (1975) and I Am Spock
(1997).
