“I’m looking forward to joining the... roster of women who have personified the
image of beauty for Estée Lauder over the years. This is an incredible
opportunity.” Carolyn Murphy
One of the world’s top fashion models, Carolyn Murphy is famous for being the
1998 VH1/Vogue’s “Model of the Year” and the face of Estee Lauder, replacing
Elizabeth Hurley. She further boosted her popularity by gracing the cover of the
Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition in 2005. She also has done campaigns for
world-prominent design houses like Versace, Gucci, Prada, and Dolce & Gabbana.
Privately speaking, Murphy, whose measurements are 32-24-34, formerly dated
model Mark Vanderloo. She married surfing entrepreneur Jake Schroeder, with whom
she has a daughter, Dylan Blue, from 1999 to 2002. She is now romantically
involved with the lead singer of the band Incubus Brandon Boyd.

Childhood and Family:
Born on August 11, 1975, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Carolyn Murphy spent
most of her early years in a trailer park in Panama City, Florida. Though she
did not have any intentions of becoming a model during her childhood, she
finally attended a modeling school following the advice of her mother. When she
was 16, Carolyn was discovered by Mary Lou Nash, the owner and operator of a
modeling agency named ‘Mary Lou’s Models.’ After graduating from Choctawhatchee
Senior High School, she relocated to Milan to further pursue her modeling
career.
In October 1999, Carolyn, who earned nickname The Blond Haired Gene Tierney
(Elle magazine, 1998), was married to surf shop owner Jake Schroeder, whom she
met while on holiday. The couple welcomed their first child, 8lbs 8oz. baby girl
Dylan Blue, on December 28, 2000. The marriage ended in separation in 2002.

Career:
Spotted by an agent when she was 16 years old, Carolyn Murphy soon appeared on
local ads and magazines throughout Alabama and Florida and then made her way to
Milan to model more professionally after graduating from high school. Before she
knew it, Murphy was on her way modeling in Paris and New York.
Murphy’s career kicked into fast pace when the model bleached her hair platinum
blonde for a photo shoot that resulted in ruining her hair and causing it to
fall out. For this reason, she had to get a short hair cut which made her a
favorite among many major photographers. She quickly graced on the covers of
many top fashion magazines such as Vogue (U.S., France, UK, and Italy), Harper’s
Bazaar, Elle (UK and France), W and Marie Claire (Italy). Her big breakthrough
arrived when she was voted VH1/Vogue’s “Model of the Year” at the 1998 Fashion
Awards.
With a supermodel status on her hands, Murphy made a successful transition from
model to actress in 1999, when she played the supporting role of Dubbie the
Blonde in the Barry Levinson-helmed Liberty Heights, which starred Adrien Brody,
Ben Foster and Orlando Jones. She earned good reviews for her performance in the
drama/comedy film. The same year, she was also featured on the cover of Vogue’s
“Models of the Millennium” and posed for the 1999 exclusive Pirelli Calendar
club.
Murphy had starred in Calvin Klein’s perfume commercials and print ads for the
“Contradiction” fragrance when she experienced huge victory with her
million-dollar contract with Estee Lauder in September 2001, replacing
actress-producer Elizabeth Hurley as the company’s primary female spokes person.
The start of Murphy’s Estee Lauder career was marked by her first emergence in
the billion-dollar company’s international magazine campaign, and in ads for its
makeup and skin care lines, and even its spa. In 2002, she posed for Playboy
calendar.
“I never thought I’d make the pages of Sports Illustrated because I’ve always
been skinny. But after I had my daughter, I had hips, I had boobs....” Carolyn
Murphy
The supermodel again became the center of interest when she landed the popular
cover of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Edition in February 2005. She was in SI’s
Swimsuit Edition in 2004, but making the cover can be considered somewhat an
accomplishment.
Also a regular on the catwalk, Murphy has worked for many famous designers,
including Valentino, Prada, DKNY, Moschino, Givenchy, Fendi, Versace, Gucci and
Dolce & Gabbana.
