Biography of Bryce Johnson

Background:

A blonde performer with an appealing screen presence and All-American cuteness, Bryce Johnson was an audience favorite and became famous for playing the golden boy Josh Ford in the WB sitcom “Popular” (1999-2001). He also has guest starred in such series as the MTV late night serial “Undressed” (1999), “Gilmore Girls,” “Dawson’s Creek” (both 2001) and “Nip/Tuck” (2005), as well as starred in the short-lived series “Still Life” (2003-2004).

As for film, the former student of American Academy of Dramatic Arts has undertaken various roles following departing from “Popular. Among his projects are The Skulls III (2003), Harry and Max (2004), Home of Phobia (2004) and Stay (2006). He will star as Bobby ‘Big Time’ Billings in the forthcoming comedy Man Maid (2006) for writer/director Chris Lusvardi.

Childhood and Family:

In Reno, Nevada, Bryce Johnson was born on April 18, 1977. Though raised in Sioux City, Iowa, Bryce and his family, including his mother and his two brothers, spent a short time in Denver, Colorado, following parents’ separation. There, he attended Lutheran High School, where he served as the co-captain of the school’s golf team and captain of the varsity soccer team, as well as was chosen Class president of both his Junior and Senior classes. Also, he became interested in acting. After graduating in 1995, Bryce took his first drama course by enrolling the Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa, and then went on to study the craft at Pasadena’s American Academy of Dramatic Arts after moving to Los Angeles.

Bryce earned nickname Matty. He married Dawn Joanne Shand on September 20, 2003, and they now remains together. In his free time, the resident of Hollywood enjoys playing all sports, especially American football, golf and beach volleyball.


Man Maid

Career:

Sioux City, Iowa-raised Bryce Johnson left the city for Hollywood at age 19 to pursue a career in acting. With only community college acting classes under his belt, he then took odd jobs, acted in many student films, while training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. By 1999, he had broke into the small screen with a costarring role of Cammy Whitmore in the WB sitcom “Saving Graces,” a project that did not overtake the pilot phase, and a five-episodic turn in MTV’s “Undressed,” playing Cliff. However, Johnson did not hit the big time until he landed the role of Josh Ford in the WB high-school-set comedy/drama “Popular” (1999). Portraying a well-liked golden boy with a heart to match and boyfriend to attractive cheerleader Brooke McQueen (Leslie Bibb) as well as Michael ‘Sugar Daddy’ Bernardino (Ron Lester)’s best friend, he won the heart of audiences with his validity. The role made him popular.

Following the series’ cancellation in 2001, Johnson guest starred in “Gilmore Girls” in the episode of “Run Away, Little Boy” and the hit “Dawson’s Creek,” as a library guy. He also appeared in the independent film Puzzled (2001, played Dominick) and made his TV movie debut with 2002’s In My Life. In 2003, he undertook the starring role of Roger Lloyd in the thriller film The Skulls III, directed by J. Miles Dale and costarring Clare Kramer and Steve Braun, and was additionally featured as Bellboy in the Roselyn Sanchez and Sofía Vergara comedy vehicle Chasing Papi.

Continuing his film work, Johnson next appeared as a love interest in the straight-to-video-release Bring It on Again (2004), starred as Harry, opposite Cole Williams as Max, in Harry + Max (2004), a drama about two teen idol brothers who come to conditions with their dysfunctional family past, and played supporting role Tazwell in Home of Phobia (2004), which starred Sam Huntington and Marla Sokoloff. He revisited television as Jake Morgan, a man who is killed on his first day as a cop, in the brief drama series “Still Life” (2003-2004). In 2005, he made guest appearances in “What I Like About You,” “House, M.D.” and “Nip/Tuck.”

The 29-year-old actor recently played the lead of John in the dark comedy movie Stay (2006), about the complexities of truthfulness. The film also starred Melinda Page Hamilton, Geoffrey Pierson and Colby French, and written and directed by Bob Goldthwait. Johnson is set to team with John Doe, Steve Hytner, Jane Lynch, as well as rejoin “Popular” co-star Sara Rue for writer/director Chris Lusvardi’s comedy Man Maid (2006). The upcoming film cast him as Bobby ‘Big Time’ Billings.
