PITT MAY PLANT ''TREE OF LIFE''
12/20/2007
The "Ocean's Thirteen" star - who earlier this month claimed he was taking a break from acting to focus on his home rebuilding project in New Orleans - is now in talks to replace Heath Ledger as the lead in writer-director Terrence Malick's new drama.
Ledger joined the project in October, but has reportedly dropped out for unspecified reasons.
Last month, Pitt pulled out of political drama "State of Play," just weeks before filming was due to begin, citing issues with the script which could not be reworked due to the ongoing writers' strike.
"Gladiator" star Russell Crowe stepped in at the last minute to replace Pitt and filming has been rescheduled to start in January.
Shortly after Pitt, 44, left the project his "Fight Club" co-star Edward Norton also pulled out. Norton has been replaced by Ben Affleck.
Shooting for "Tree of Life" is due to begin next spring.
